Tour de Kitsap Sunday
Whaling Days All Weekend!
Kitsap is an arrow of land –picturesque, scenic, historic, fun, and we are ferry ride from the Seattle environs. The 2011 Tour de Kitsap allows you to choose your distances, terrain and history. You can begin your personal TdK Sunday morning with either a ferry ride/registration at Bremerton or the convenient main registration at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. Then explore our back roads and the small and timeless communities that make the heart of central Puget Sound so much fun to ride.
What’s in store for you? “What if I come early?” Silverdale Whaling Days begins Friday night. Also see Kitsap Peninsula Visitor and Convention Bureau.
- STS - Single Track Saturday
Saturday the 30th Our Single Track Saturday will be held on Olympic Resources Group (Pope and Talbot) forest land, beginning in Historic Port Gamble. This playground is for those who prefer to ride terrain. This is near Kitsap Memorial State Park on Hood’s Canal. Camping, including Hiker Biker campsites and a group camp, is available. The Hood Canal Brewery lurks near by. Click for a map of the area.
Sunday July 31th is the traditional TdK which will have 102, 72, 48, 32 routes and two shorter family rides. You will ride into places once served by the Mosquito Fleet. The Cascades and the Olympics, Hood’s Canal and the various waters and passes of Puget Sound make everyone a camera artist. WSCC rest stops are acknowledged to be the best, period. That tradition continues with each stop having its own theme. There are not a lot of stop lights in Kitsap and we have selected some wonderful routes for you. Some will find an invigorating ride, others will be challenged. Everyone will have fun. The route is monitored. The start and finish are at the Silverdale Beach Hotel in Silverdale, WA. Showers are available, post ride. Please bring your own towel if not a guest at the SBH. There will also be a post ride pasta buffet at the hotel for $10 for those that preregistered riders, for others it’s $15. Naturally there are many ways, and many places, to replace your electrolytes after the ride.
Our hub is the Silverdale Beach Hotel and Convention Center and this is Silverdale Whaling Days Festival weekend. This is a really fun time what with a street fair and carnival, fireworks and canoe races. Whaling Days starts on Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday. Hotel reservations are recommended with rate and other benefits, including late checkout, if you reserve as part of the TdK. The hotel is on the beach and has all amenities. There is a bike path nearby.
